Kerry seeks wins in Hawaii, Utah, Idaho

WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Sen. John Kerry is seeking to maintain his momentum for "Super-Tuesday' by sweeping next week's contests in Hawaii, Utah and Idaho.

The Massachusetts senator's presidential nomination campaign this week turned the heat up in Idaho, which holds its caucuses next Tuesday. State Gov. John Evans, a staunch Kerry ally, is launching an Idaho Veterans Brigade, repeating an initiative that has proven highly successful for the senator in 16 of 18 primary and caucus races he has run.

Kerry has also approved a major push in Utah, which holds its primary Tuesday. Again, Veterans Brigade volunteers will be seeking to bring out fellow vets as part of an aggressive six-day push in the last lap of the race.

And in Hawaii, another Kerry ally, veteran Sen. Daniel Inouye, has been campaigning hard for his old Senate colleague for the Tuesday caucuses there.

Kerry's strategy is to seek wins across the nation, while his one remaining rival -- Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina -- is husbanding his more limited resources for states he hopes to do well in.
