Sarandon, Rudd to star in LaBute benefit

NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Susan Sarandon and Paul Rudd will appear in a benefit performance of five new one-act Neil LaBute plays in New York next month, event organizers say.

Brian Dennehy, Christopher Meloni and Amanda Peet have also signed on to act in "Autobahn" on March 8.

Playwright LaBute will also direct the collection of plays.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit MCC Theater -- producers of the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Wit" and one of New York City's leading Off-Broadway theater companies --as well as its literary and educational outreach programs.

Later this season, MCC will re-team with LaBute to present the U.S. premiere of his work, "The Distance From Here," directed by Michael Greif.

Last season, MCC presented the critically acclaimed, sold-out run of LaBute's Sept. 11 drama, "The Mercy Seat," starring Liev Schreiber and Sigourney Weaver.

In addition to being an accomplished playwright, LaBute is also an acclaimed filmmaker. His recent films include "The Shape of Things," "Your Friends and Neighbors" and "In the Company of Men."
