'Monty Python' tops British favorite films

LONDON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" fans obviously abound as the comedy has been voted the No. 1 favorite film in Britain of all time.

The classic cult film overtakes the top spot from Stanley Kubrick's landmark film "A Clockwork Orange," which was named favorite film during last year's survey, Britain's Sky News reported Thursday.

The annual survey, which asks for favorite British films irrespective of release dates, was conducted by Web site Amazon and the Internet Movie Database to coincide with Sunday's Bafta awards.

Other Top 10 films included "Trainspotting," "Shakespeare In Love," "Sense and Sensibility" and "Love Actually."

"Lawrence of Arabia," "The Third Man," "The Bridge On the River Kwai" and another Monty Python film, "Life of Brian," rounded out the Top 10.

"This survey demonstrates the eclectic nature of British films," said Mark Walker, Amazon DVD product manager.

"I think the biggest surprise is the presence of two Monty Python films in the top 10. They lead a strong field from the genre of great British comedy."
