NEW YORK, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Meg Ryan said in New York she was comfortable filming her "In the Cut" sex scenes because director Jane Campion was behind the camera.
"I don't think it's really about gender," Ryan told reporters when asked if the shoot was easier because Campion is a woman.
"I think it's about Jane," she continued. "I was able to see how she has treated sexuality and eroticism in her past films and that made me very confident and the kind of trust that we developed when we were working and rehearsing, that helped. Also, it was great to hear her talk. I love how so much in the movie is what (the male lead) says. There are layers of what makes something erotic."
Available on DVD and home video Tuesday, "In the Cut" is the story of a lonely teacher (Ryan) who begins a dark, sexual relationship with a detective (Mark Ruffalo) investigating murders in her neighborhood.
