Lesbian drama for second series

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Lesbian drama "The L Word" has already been booked for Showtime renewal, despite being premiered only 12 days ago.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Showtime entertaiment president Robert Greenblatt was wowed by the quadrupling of the network's primetime average rating in the first two episodes.

This is the fastest pickup in the premium channel's history.

"With its provocative storytelling, rich character development, amazing cast and universal appeal, the decision to renew 'Word' was a no-brainer," Greenblatt said.

Production on the next 13 episodes begins in June.

The first season -- executive produced by Ilene Chaiken, through her production company Posse Productions Inc., Steve Golin and Larry Kennar, and distributed internationally by MGM Television Entertainmen -- was also 13 episodes long, including a two-hour pilot episode.
