CRESTED BUTTE, Colo., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Dozens of country music singers have descended on a small Colorado ski resort for five days of music and snow fun to raise money for cancer research.
The annual event, named Country in the Rockies, will feature some of Nashville's most popular country acts Wednesday through Sunday at Club Med Crested Butte, where several hundred guests have gathered for non-stop concerts and ski activities, all with the goal of raising funds for the Frances Preston Laboratories at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville.
Mel Tillis will recreate his popular Branson, Mo., show on the mountain Wednesday, with Lorrie Morgan heading an all-star finale Saturday. Kenny Loggins, Charlie Daniels, Trick Pony, Jo Dee Messina, BlackHawk, Mandy Barnett, Sherrie Austin and Gary Chapman are among the three dozen performers scheduled to appear at the event.
Typically the event, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, raises more than $1 million through auctions, celebrity bartending, ticket sales and other activities.
The ski event is a joint production of the T.J. Martell Foundation, the Preston Labs and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
