LOS ANGELES, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A veteran Hollywood team will resurrect Dr. Frankenstein for a weekly television series on the USA Network, the Daily Variety reported Wednesday.
Filmmaker Martin Scorsese and author Dean Koontz are teaming up with director Marcus Nispel and producer Tony Krantz for a contemporary version of the Mary Shelley classic. A two-hour pilot and four series episodes are originally scheduled, probably for the fall season.
"It's amazing to have this creative team in the same room, let alone working for us on a project of this scope," said Jeff Wachtel, USA executive vice president of programming.
"I have always loved the idea of rethinking classic stories as contemporary 'urban myths' and we are thrilled that Frankenstein will come to life in the hands of these gifted artists."
The series is set in present-day Seattle, where Dr. Victor Frankenstein and his creature live, after surviving the past two centuries through the doctor's genetic tinkering. Their lives are complicated when a policewoman and her partner stumble upon Frankenstein while working on a seemingly standard homicide.
