Michael Jackson dances on top of limo

SANTA MARIA, Calif., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Michael Jackson danced on top of his limousine after pleading not guilty in Santa Maria, Calif., Friday to child molestation charges.

As he was leaving the courthouse, Jackson climbed onto the top of the limo, accompanied by two videographers, and waved to hundreds of fans who had come to show their support for him. As he waved, he did a little footwork -- but not his famous moonwalk.

Observers speculated that the gesture might not go down well with prosecutors or with the judge in the case, Rodney S. Melville, who had reprimanded Jackson earlier in the day for arriving about 20 minutes late for his arraignment.

Benjamin Brafman, who has joined Jackson's team of defense lawyers, called the moment "a spontaneous love outpouring" and said it had not been planned. He told reporters he hoped the judge and prosecutors would be upset by the image of Jackson dancing on the car top.

Brafman said Jackson was just being himself -- an entertainer.
