Elijah leaves Frodo behind

NEW YORK, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Elijah Wood says he hasn't been offered a single fantasy role since he finished filming "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

"None!" the actor forever to be known as Frodo the Hobbit told United Press International's Karen Butler. "Isn't that surprising? None! I've gotten no fantasy scripts at all. Thank God!"

Wood says his next project is playing a tech-support guy who helps erase Kate Winslet's memory in Charlie Kaufman's new comedy "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

"I'm such a huge fan of Kaufman's work," Wood said of the offbeat "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich" scribe.

"He's one of the great writers of our time in terms of creating stories that seem like they are original ideas," Wood continued.

"They're unique and different. To work with Michel Gondry, the director, also was a dream come true. I've been a fan of his for years. So, it was just a blast and a completely different experience (than 'The Lord of the Rings.')"
