A&E schedules mortuary-set series

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- A&E Network has signed a new primetime series to its programming based on a real-life mortuary business, according to the Hollywood Reporter Wednesday.

The reality series, titled "Dearly Departed," follows a California-based family in the funeral home business. Three sisters and their father work at the mortuary, which is owned by the fiance of one of the sisters.

The series, expected to debut during second quarter 2004, resembles HBO's popular series "Six Feet Under," which is fictional.

Like "Six Feet Under," "Dearly Departed" follows the personal and professional lives of the characters, but without the heavily dramatic tone of the HBO series, said Bob DeBitetto, senior vice-president of original programming at A&E.
