Seven films up for visual effects Oscar

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Friday that seven films are being considered for this year's visual effects Oscar.

The films in consideration are "The Hulk"; "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"; "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World"; "Peter Pan"; "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"; "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines"; and "X2."

The Visual Effects Award Nominating Committee will screen 15-minute clips from each of the movies, and then nominate three of them for the Academy Award for Achievement in Visual Effects. The finalists will be announced along with nominations in 23 other categories on Jan. 27.

The 76th Academy Awards will be presented on Feb. 29, in ceremonies at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, to be televised live on ABC.
