Michael Caine to buttle for Batman

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Industry reports have it that Michael Caine will play the role of Batman's butler Alfred in the upcoming installment, Zap2it.com said Tuesday.

The lead role has already been won by Christian Bale, but other details of the casting and script, which was written by director Christopher Nolan and David Goyer, are being closely guarded.

Goyer wrote the screenplays for the "Blade" trilogy, a film franchise inspired by another comic book series.

Caine, known for his charismatic role in 1966's "Alfie," is reportedly the choice for Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler. Besides running stately Wayne manor, Alfred is integral to Batman because he knows his employer's secret alter ego and crime-fighting activities.

Caine, 70, has won two Oscars for 1986's "Hannah and Her Sisters" and 1999's "The Cider House Rules." He also received nominations for his roles in "Alfie," "Sleuth," "Educating Rita" and 2002's "The Quiet American."
