Jessica Lynch: 'The Army used me'

NEW YORK, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Pfc. Jessica Lynch is reportedly accusing the Pentagon of using her as a female Rambo for propaganda purposes.

The New York Daily News said the 20-year-old soldier made the statement during the taping of an interview with Diane Sawyer for ABC-TV's "Primetime" program.

Lynch was captured by Iraqis earlier this year, soon after the United States invaded Iraq. She was subsequently freed by American troops.

The Post said Lynch told ABC there was no reason for her rescue from an Iraqi hospital to be filmed: The video tape showing U.S. commandos wheeling an injured Lynch to a waiting helicopter was among the most dramatic of the war and made her name familiar to most Americans.

The newspaper says Lunch also disputes the Pentagon's early version of her capture by Iraqis, which suggested she had heroically defended herself -- going down only after firing all her ammo.

Lynch said her M-16 jammed and she never fired even one round.

There was no immediate response from the Pentagon, which awarded Lynch a Purple Heart for her injuries.

The interview is to be telecast next Tuesday, Veterans Day.
