NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Walter Yetnikoff, energetic music chief at CBS and Sony in the 1970s and '80s, has a new recording niche -- for the movies.
Yetnikoff and producer Tracy McKnight have co-founded Commotion Records, an independent label that will specialize in film music.
"Our niche is indie movies," Yetnikoff said. "We're ready to collaborate with a director or a studio in order to do the music supervising, acquire the soundtrack -- or both."
Koch Entertainment has signed a contract to provide the New York-based label with sales and marketing services.
Commotion's initial release, due Nov. 11, is the soundtrack to Lions Gate Films' "The Cooler," starring William H. Macy, Maria Bello, Paul Sorvino and Alec Baldwin. It was directed by Wayne Kramer.
Composer-trumpeter Mark Isham wrote the score. The soundtrack features Diana Krall, 'NSync's Joey Fatone, Bobby Caldwell, Tierney Sutton and Sorvino, who plays Bobby Stafford, a lounge singer on his last legs.
