NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Liza Minnelli has filed for divorce from her fourth husband who has accused her of beating him so bad he is brain damaged and has sued her for $11 million.
Her husband, concert promoter David Gest, 50, said in a court deposition the beatings left him in so much agony he has to take "11 prescription medications per day" to manage the "constant, unrelenting pain," the London Telegraph said.
Shortly after describing the lawsuit as "stupid," Minelli filed for divorce, the Hollywood Reporter said.
Gest said security guards would try to intervene to stop her choking, slapping, punching, biting and throwing lamps during the attacks, according to court papers.
It's alleged the alcohol the 57-year-old actress and singer consumed "gave her remarkable force and strength," with her production manager claiming that "she is stronger than any woman."
The lawsuit is the latest nail in the coffin of the singer and actress's 16-month marriage. They were introduced in June 2001 by Michael Jackson, for whom Gest had arranged a Madison Square Garden concert.
