Toronto film fest has high-end line-up

TORONTO, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The Toronto International Film Festival has scored an impressive slate of high-end product, Daily Variety said Wednesday.

Among the films from the majors to be showcased are MGM's thriller "Out of Time," starring Denzel Washington and directed by Carl Franklin; the Paramount comedy "The School of Rock," from Richard Linklater, with Jack Black and Joan Cusack; Warner's "Matchstick Men" from director Ridley Scott, starring Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell, and Disney's "Veronica Guerin," with Cate Blanchett in the title role for director Joel Schumacher.

Toronto will embrace far more high-profile product than was in evidence in Cannes. This Hollywood presence reflects concern over the more condensed Oscar schedule as well as the continually rising cost of competing in Cannes.

Significantly, Toronto organizers have also confirmed a long list of A-list attendees, including Blanchett, Washington, Nicole Kidman, Anthony Hopkins, Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins and Sean Penn.
