John Singleton to get star on Walk of Fame

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Director John Singleton will be honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame next Tuesday in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The placement marks the 2,234th star to be added to the celebrated sidewalk in Hollywood.

Johnny Grant, honorary mayor of Hollywood and chairman of the Walk of Fame Committee, will preside over the event. Tyrese Gibson, Laurence Fishburne and producer Neal Moritz will participate in the ceremony.

Born in South Central Los Angeles in 1968, Singleton's career began while attending the Filmic Writing Program at the University of Southern California, where he won three writing awards.

"Boyz N the Hood," his first film, earned two Academy Award nominations.

His other films include: "Poetic Justice," "Higher Learning," "Rosewood," "Baby Boy," the remake of "Shaft" and the sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious."
