Disney's Mickey Mouse to make comeback

GLENDALE, Calif., July 26 (UPI) -- Disney's Mickey Mouse is about to become the centerpiece of a movie, retail, publishing, video and television campaign worldwide.

This year is Mickey's 75th birthday, and the Walt Disney management is determined not to let the cheerful geriatric rodent fade from public consciousness.

Mickey "is from and of every country around the world," Deborah Dugan, president of Disney publishing, told the Washington Post. "Bugs Bunny wishes he could say that," she added, referring to the Warner Bros. character.

This fall, Gemstone Publishing will reintroduce Disney comic books featuring Mickey and his pals, as well as a retail blitz by selling the famous Mickey t-shirts. But the biggest splash is expected from the three-year U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamp program that begins next year, according to the Post.

In addition, Disney comic strips featuring Mickey will appear in newspapers.
