Rock star tangles with photog down under

MELBOURNE, July 20 (UPI) -- Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been ordered to appear in court for allegedly smashing the window of a photographer during an argument in Australia.

Martin, who is also the boyfriend of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, apparently got mad when he spied freelance photographer Jon Lister taking shots of him surfing at Seven Mile Beach, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported.

Lister told police Martin walked up to him and demanded he erase the pictures from his digital camera. When he refused, Lister said Martin ran over to his car and smashed out his windshield and deflated his tires.

Police declined to comment on the incident, but did confirm the 26-year-old Englishman was to appear in the Byron Bay Magistrates Court on Oct. 8, the newspaper said.

Coldplay has been touring across Australia and most recently drew raves for its performance at Byron Bay's Splendour in the Grass music festival.
