LOS ANGELES, June 26 (UPI) -- Recording artist Lisa Loeb will give voice to Spider-Man's gal pal Mary Jane Watson in the new animated series, "Spider-Man," set to debut on MTVJuly 11.

Loeb joins Neil Patrick Harris as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Ian Ziering as Harry Osborn on the new show, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

For Loeb, voice over work is a natural step that allows the singer-songwriter to bring her acting skills to the recording studio.

Based on the legendary Marvel comic book, the animated series "Spider-Man" follows the adventures of Peter Parker, who develops superhuman powers after being bitten by an irradiated spider. Now in college, Peter juggles academics, work as a stringer photographer for the Daily Bugle, an on-again-off-again relationship with the love of his life and fighting super-villains and criminals -- all while struggling to maintain his secret identity as Spider-Man.

In addition to voicing the character of Mary Jane, Loeb has been busy spinning her own career web. Her latest CD release is "Hello Lisa" on Artemis Records and features the single "Underdog."
