England's solid start in 2nd cricket test

ADELAIDE, Australia, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- England cricketers shrugged off a first test loss to Australia with a solid 3 for 266 on the first day of the second test in Adelaide.

Paul Collingwood, 98 not out, and Kevin Pietersen, 60 not out, steered England to a comfortable position with a century partnership before the end the first day's play.

Earlier, Collingwood and Ian Bell also had put on a 100 run partnership before Bell was dismissed off a bouncer from Brett Lee when he was caught and bowled.

Stuart Clark was the hero of the Aussie attack claiming both the England openers -- Andrew Strauss (14) and Alastair Cook (27).

Those two wickets spoiled the otherwise encouraging opening for England after skipper Andrew Flintoff won the toss and elected to bat.

Both teams retained the same lineups in Adelaide as for the first test in Brisbane.
