MOSCOW, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Russia and Turkey are moving forward with plans to build four new nuclear power plants in Turkey.
The joint proposal for the 1,200-megawatt plants is expected to be sent to Turkey's government for approval to go to bidding soon, said Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko.
The project is estimated to be worth between $18 billion and $20 billion, the Daily News Bulletin reports.
The contract to be bid on will include construction of the plant and participation in the operation of the nuclear power plant units.
Russia was selected to build one nuclear power plant in Turkey at a tender, Shmatko said.
Russia and Turkey are also discussing the possibility of signing a long-term contract on electricity deliveries to Turkey.
The proposed contract is worth $60 billion and will last for 15 years, Shmatko said.
