REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- U.S.-based Microsoft Corp. introduced its new Environmental Sustainability Dashboard, designed to help customers measure their carbon footprints.

The new software, free to existing Microsoft Dynamics AX customers, will allow midsize businesses to measure energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is aimed at curbing energy consumption and emissions and helping businesses cut their costs.

"Businesses will find new opportunities for cost savings and improving operational performance by getting a fresh perspective on their operations," said Kirill Tatarinov, corporate vice president, Microsoft Business Solutions.

A recent survey of 130 technology professionals by Forrester Research Inc. suggested that 55 percent want to reduce energy-related expenses and 50 percent want to do the right thing for the environment.
