PARIS, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- French energy company GDF Suez says the Cape Scott wind farm and Beckwith solar facility adds 109 megawatts of renewable energy to its Canadian portfolio.
The French company said Tuesday the Cape Scott wind farm on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and the Beckwith solar facility in Ontario were up and running.
Cape Scott is a 99 MW facility. The power generated from the $310 million project is sold to utility company BC Hydro as part of a 20-year agreement.
Beckwith is a $45 million 10 MW project in Ontario and power is purchased by the Ontario Power Authority as part of a 20-year agreement.
The French energy company said nearly 17 percent of Canada's power comes from renewable energy resources.
GDF Suez Chief Executive Officer Gerard Mestrallet said in a statement both facilities positions his company as one of the leader renewable energy providers in Canada.
"We are proud to continue demonstrating our commitment to environmentally sound power generation," he said.
