Dolphin Energy assumes pipeline management

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, June 17 (UPI) -- The Abu Dhabi gas firm Dolphin Energy assumed management responsibilities for roughly 190 miles of gas pipelines owned by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co.

Dolphin will take over management of supplies to Abu Dhabi and Dubai and supervise an expansion plan to deliver natural gas imported from Qatar to customers in Oman.

The deal gives Dolphin a 25-year lease over the eastern distribution networks of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., or ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi newspaper The National said Tuesday.

Dolphin can exchange gas supplies and transportation arrangements with ADNOC to utilize gas transmission networks in a more efficient manner. Part of ADNOC's pipeline system was idle prior to the Dolphin deal.

Dolphin started importing around 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from Qatar in July. Roughly 10 percent of that will be delivered to markets in Oman later this year.
