PARIS, April 11 (UPI) -- French nuclear firm Areva signed a deal with Japanese utilities.
The nuclear power generation company said now has contracts on nuclear fuel cycle operations worth nearly $4 billion with Japanese utilities.
The announcement was made during a visit by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon to Japan to boost cooperation in the nuclear energy industry.
The Japanese utilities involved in the contracts include Tokyo Electric Power Co., Kansai Electric Power Co., Shikoku Electric Power Co. and Japan Atomic Power Co.,
Areva said in a statement that "the contracts cover services in the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle such as uranium supplies, conversion and enrichment." The longest contract will last for 15 years. Areva's revenues in Japan totaled about $1 billion in 2007 according to the statement.
