Russia relations on agenda for meeting

BRUSSELS, March 4 (UPI) -- NATO foreign ministers are expected to discuss the possibility of engaging the NATO-Russia Council during a meeting Thursday in Belgium.

In a series of meetings ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's April summit in Strasbourg, France, and Kehl, Germany, the alliance's foreign ministers will meet Thursday at NATO headquarters to discuss ongoing missions and priorities for the alliance, NATO reported.

At the top of the agenda for the ministers will be the International Security Assistance Force's ongoing campaign in Afghanistan. The meeting will also address NATO's strained relations with Russia following Russia's August conflict with Georgia.

Officials say the foreign ministers will "discuss possible next steps, including a decision to engage Russia formally in the NATO-Russia Council again," the release said.

The meeting is expected to be preceded by a meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
