BRUSSELS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- The head of NATO and members of the Parliamentary Assembly met Monday to discuss the alliance's top priorities ahead of the NATO Summit in France and Germany.
NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer met with John Tanner, president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, along with other parliamentary officials Monday to discuss the ongoing International Security Assistance Force operations in Afghanistan, NATO reported.
Officials say the meeting also addressed NATO's strained relations with Russia and the evolving security situation in the Balkans, among other top priorities, including the "defense transformation agenda and the financial crisis," the release said.
The meeting, which took place at NATO headquarters in Brussels, was part of an effort to address the alliance's agenda ahead of the NATO summit in Strasbourg, France, and Kehl, Germany, scheduled for the beginning of April.
