KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An 18-month realignment initiative is under way for the U.S. Air Force to better support its evolving cyber operations.
The Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, based at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, has begun an 18-month process that will move approximately 70 personnel from the AFOTEC headquarters at Kirtland to three additional locations, the Air Force reported.
Maj. Gen. Stephen Sargeant, AFOTEC commander, said the realignment is part of an effort to better position the expertise of the center to effectively handle command and control requirements and address cyber concerns.
Officials say the AFOTEC personnel will be deployed to Edwards Air Force Base in California, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, in addition to operations at Kirtland Air Force Base.
"Realigning AFOTEC's command and control and cyber expertise to our detachments is consistent with Air Force integration of cyber and space, and recognizes the mission-critical role of software in the command and control of modern warfare," Sargeant said in a statement.
