PKK rebels attack Turkish convoy

ANKARA, Turkey, June 27 (UPI) -- Rebels with the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, killed four Turkish soldiers and a driver in the southern Turkish province of Diyarbakir Friday.

The Turkish military stepped up military action against the separatist group operating out of northern Iraq. The U.S. military is providing Turkish officials with intelligence on the group. Several countries recognize the PKK as a terrorist entity, though Kurdish officials have not recognized the group as such.
