Northrop Grumman awarded more than $444.6M for countermeasures

Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman was awarded a $444.6 million contract by the Air Force to support the AAQ-24 Directional Infrared Countermeasure for large U.S. military aircraft.

The deal, announced Wednesday by the Department of Defense, comes under the terms of a firm-fixed-price requirements contract, meaning that any additional costs accumulated as work on the contract progresses will not be reimbursed to Northrop Grumman by the U.S. government.

The contract will support the "public private partnership for repair of 34 national stock numbers" concerning the AAQ-24, which is used to shield aircraft from infrared guided missiles.

Work on the contract will be performed in Warner Robins, Ga., and is expected to be completed by December 2022.

In addition to work for the U.S. Air Force, 3.9 percent of the contract is covered by foreign military sales of $17.2 million to Canada and Bahrain.
