General Dynamics to provide tank ammunition for Iraq

The $93 million deal is for 120mm insensitive munition high explosive with tracer tank ammunition cartridges.

Oct. 30 (UPI) -- U.S. Army officials on Friday announced a contract with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems for 120mm insensitive munition high explosive with tracer tank ammunition cartridges.

The deal is said to be worth $93 million and classified as a firm-fixed-price foreign military sales contract, meaning, that General Dynamics is responsible for all risk in terms of additional costs and is ultimately responsible for resulting profit benefits or financial losses.

The 120mm IM HE-T is specifically made for the primary weapon system on a M1 Abrams tank, among others. The warhead is designed to target bunkers, defensive fortifications, light armored vehicles and personnel.

The estimated completion for the order is set for October 2022 and will benefit the Iraqi government upon delivery.
