Leonardo to work with Hanwha for avionics systems in South Korea

Leonardo and Hanwha Systems have signed an agreement to jointly provide avionics and mission systems to South Korea and others.

The deal, under a memorandum of understanding signed at an aerospace and defense exhibition in South Korea, means the companies will jointly develop and deliver targeting systems and Leonardo will localize parts of sensor production with South Korea's Hanwha Systems, Leonardo announced in a news release Wednesday.

Leonardo has supplied electronic systems for the Eurofighter Typhoon combat fighter and for Saab's Gripen E fighter.

The Italy-based company said it will be able to work with Hanwha Systems to deliver an effective sensor that can accurately recognize and track targets, even maintaining tracking on two separate targets that are very close together.

It said the memorandum expands Leonardo's activities in South Korea, a strategic market for the company where it has previously supplied avionics for helicopters.
