Elbit demos its unmanned surface vessel

Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Seagull, Elbit Systems' unmanned surface vessel, successfully performed an anti-submarine mission in Israel while controlled remotely from Britain, the company announced on Thursday.

The vessel's maneuvers were conducted in Haifa Bay. Its control consoles were at a defense exhibition in London and transmitted mission instructions with a satellite communications link.

Elbit said in a press release that the Seagull operated its dipping sonar and company software to detection and classify objects in real time.

Seagull is about 39.3 feet long and can be operated from a mother ship or a land station. It can perform anti-submarine, mine hunting electronic warfare and other missions using installed modular mission systems.
