March 22 (UPI) -- L-3 Fuzing and Ordnance Systems received a $37 million contract to provide various military fuses for the government of Saudi Arabia.

The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army in support of foreign military sales to the kingdom. Saudi Arabia is set to receive more than 38,000 M734A1 multi-option fuses and more than 165,000 M783 detonating and delay fuses.

The U.S. Department of Defense says work on the contract will be performed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is expected to be complete by the end of May 2019.

L-3 received all funding at the time of the contract award. Work will be managed by the U.S. Army Contracting Command in New Jersey.

Fuses are parts of military devices which initiate particular functions, such as detonation or some other electrical reaction. The components are typically used to support artillery munitions, grenades, sea mines, and other explosive devices.
