MADRID, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Airbus Defense and Space conducted an air-to-air refueling demonstration using an H225 Caracal helicopter and two C295 medium transports.
The demonstration involved Airbus Helicopters, a company subsidiary based in Marignane, France. According to the European defense contractor, the event showcased the company's abilities to provide an extended range of search and rescue aircraft.
During the trials, contacts were executed at speeds of 105 to 115 knots. The company says all crews reported a smooth operation.
The H225M Caracal multirole combat helicopter is designed to operate from naval and ground-based platforms, and has a 700 nautical-mile range. Air-to-air refueling can be performed during forward flight or while hovering.
The C295W is a military airlifter used to support a variety of missions, such as transporting personnel or supporting equipment between strategic locations.
