LINKOPING, Sweden, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Sweden's Defense Material Administration has tapped Saab for the supply of ammunition for the Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifle.
The ammunition, in a variety of types, will be delivered next year and is worth more than $14.3 million.
"With this order, of both live and training ammunition, the Swedish Armed Forces continues its efforts to increase the capability of its army on the battlefield. The order is definitely a strong proof of the customer's trust in the system and in Saab as a supplier," said Gorgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area.
The Carl-Gustaf is an 84mm anti-tank that was originally introduced in 1948. Its modern version is used in anti-armor warfare as well as for clearing obstacles and engaging enemies in buildings.
Additional details of the Swedish military order were not disclosed.
