Bell-Boeing gets $544 million Osprey contract modification

Deal covers manufacture and delivery of four MV-22 tilt-rotor aircraft for Japan.

WASHINGTON, July 20 (UPI) -- Bell-Boeing Joint Project Office has been awarded a $544 million U.S. Navy contract modification for four MV-22 Ospreys for the government of Japan.

The modification provides for the long lead production materials and manufacture and delivery of the tilt-rotor aircraft.

It also includes incorporation of an engineering change proposal for the standby flight display.

Work will be performed in Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Utah, California, Canada, Arizona, the U.K., Washington, New Mexico, Michigan, Vermont, North Carolina, Georgia and Ohio.

The job is expected to be completed by May 2020.

The Naval Air Systems Command is the contracting activity.

The Osprey is a joint service multi-role combat aircraft utilizing tiltrotor technology to combine the vertical performance of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft.
