ŠķēDE, Latvia, July 6 (UPI) -- The Latvian and Lithuanian air forces successfully live-fired Saab's RBS 70 NG air defense system last month, the company announced Wednesday.

The firing of the NG and its earlier-generation RBS 70 systems took place during the Baltic Zenith 2016 military exercise in Šķēde, Latvia, the company said in a statement.

The RBS 70 NB VSHORAD is a man-portable system that features fully integrated all-target capabilities for use in air defense combat situations.

It sports an integrated sighting solution, enhanced missile operator aids and an unjammable laser guidance, Saab said.

About 90 soldiers and national guardsmen from Latvia and soldiers with the Lithuanian military's air defense unit took part in the exercise.

Troops were able to successfully hit flying targets after a few hours of training, which showcases the system's ease of use, Saab said.

NATO placed a $12.4 million order for the RBS 70 Bolide missile system earlier this year.
