ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- The Qatar Emiri Air Force is receiving Apache helicopter targeting and pilotage systems from Lockheed Martin under a Foreign Military Sales contract.
The award for Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor systems, or M-TADS/PNVS, is worth $90.6 million and was issued by the U.S. Army.
The order is a Lot 9 contract awarded to Lockheed Martin in May by the Army.
A total of than 1,250 M-TADS/PNVS systems and spares have been delivered to the U.S. Army and international customers since 2005, when the systems were first fielded to provide long-range, precision engagement and flying day/night capabilities in all weather conditions.
"The Qatar Emiri Air Force will be one of the first international customers to receive M-TADS/PNVS systems equipped with the new Modernized Laser Range Finder Designator," said Mike Taylor, Apache international programs director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "The new Laser Range Finder Designator is more than two times more reliable, improves targeting performance and can be repaired or replaced on the flight line, which significantly reduces operation and support costs."
Lockheed Martin said the award will extend production of the M-TADS/PNVS systems at its Florida facilities through 2017.
