Britain to continue using Saab soldier training system

LINKOPING, Sweden, June 20 (UPI) -- British troops are to continue to receive a managed training service using Saab's deployable tactical engagement simulator, the company says.

The managed training service for British Army Overseas Training Exercises is for a period of three years and comes under a new contract with the Ministry of Defense worth about $30 million.

"Since 2009 our technical and exercise training support staff have effectively been an embedded resource within the British Army and have supported up to seven exercises per year," said Henrik Hojer, managing director of Saab Training & Simulations. "Saab sees this new contract as recognition of the strong working relationship we have developed with the British Army."

Saab's deployable tactical engagement simulator system provides infrastructure, instrumentation and resources for live, force-on-force training. It also tracks and monitors the movements and performance of individuals, vehicles and equipment for after-action review.

Saab said its DTES system is suitable for light infantry training-- from platoon to brigade headquarters units.
