DALLAS, April 21 (UPI) -- The Joint Light Tactical vehicle by a Lockheed Martin team has surpassed 100,000 miles in government testing, the company announced on Monday.
The Engineering & Manufacturing Development reliability, availability and maintainability testing involves primary on-road, secondary road and off-road/trail driving of the vehicles, 22 of which were delivered to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.
“Our JLTV continues to demonstrate excellent reliability,” said Scott Greene, vice president of Ground Vehicles for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “With this 100,000-mile milestone now in our rear-view mirror, we look forward to continue proving to our Army and Marine Corps customers that our JLTV delivers the most capability at the right price.”
The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle JLTV program is for a vehicle with the crew protection of a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle with enhanced mobility to replace and/or complement the Humvee now in use. The Lockheed team’s vehicle features a patented Meritor Pro-Tec all-independent air-ride suspension and a Cummins turbo diesel and Allison transmission.
If the Lockheed team wins the bid for the JLTV program, its vehicles will be assembled for the military services in Arkansas by Lockheed and its partner, BAE Systems.
The Lockheed Martin team delivered 22 of the vehicles to the military last August. Testing of the vehicles will continue through the fall.
