The AIDEWS package is designed to shield F-16 fighters from electronic threats and was deemed ready to use by the U.S. Air Force.

Joe Rambala, vice president of the electronic warfare division at Exelis, said in a statement Tuesday the defense system provides a "powerful" deterrent against "sophisticated" electronic threats.

The company provided the AIDEWS systems, including the operational software itself, as part of a foreign military sales program at Warner Robins Air Force Base, Ga.
