CRAWLEY, England, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Thales UK has announced its acquisition of XPI Simulation Ltd., whose customer base includes Britain's Ministry of Defense and British police forces.
Terms of the transaction, which Thales said strengthens its simulation and training business, were not disclosed.
"XPI and Thales are an excellent fit for each other," said Thales UK Vice President Peter Hitchcock. "The technology developed by XPI, which crucially can be delivered through COTS equipment, complements Thales' own portfolio.
"Thales and XPI will jointly benefit from our combined longstanding relationships and commitment to customers in the UK MOD and other sectors, particularly in support of our ambitions within the military land training and simulation market."
XPI Simulation uses commercial off-the-shelf solutions to build and deliver high-fidelity simulated environments. The company specializes in techniques for processing light ranging and technology data, or LIDAR, which maps physical environments in detail.
The company's main product line is driver training systems.
"This agreement with Thales will give us more opportunity for future growth, more investment to continue developing innovative, market-leading products, as well as giving us access to other markets in which Thales is present, both in the UK and overseas," said Simon Skinner, managing director of XPI Simulation Ltd.
