Nexter Introduces new armored vehicle

LONDON, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- French defense company Nexter Systems has developed a new low- and medium-intensity combat wheeled armored vehicle called the Titus.

The vehicle combines a heavy duty truck chassis from Tatra, with existing elements and components developed for Nexter's existing combat vehicles.

"Through its unrivaled level of modularity based on combat missions kits, operational environment kits and a wide family of variants, Titus is able to fulfill the full range of missions from infantry transport to combat missions, combat support and combat service support functions, in any kind of type of commitments likely to occur in a hybrid conflict," Nexter said.

Titus, announced at a defense and security equipment exhibition in Britain, Titus is mounted on a Tatra 6x6 chassis and uses a 440 horsepower engine. It is armed and protects against both mine and improvised explosive blasts. Protection against rocket-propelled grenades can be added. It can be equipped with a Remote Control Weapon Station for 7.62mm to 20mm weapons, and 40mm grenade launchers as well.

Nexter said Titus is available in three configurations; low intensity conflict; conventional warfare; and counter-insurgency/urban terrain.
