LGS conducting research for laser development

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- LGS Innovations is to conduct research for the U.S. Air Force Research Labs in support of advanced laser development.

The research by LGS Innovations Government Communications Lab will include mapping out the path for development of individual component technologies and also large-scale fabrication of components.

LGS said the contract is worth $250,000 and part of a larger development effort in collaboration with Sandia National Labs, Boston University, Research Triangle Park and EOS Photonics.

"Our Applied Research and Technology Team includes the foremost researchers in the science of photonics," said Kevin Kelly, chief executive officer of LGS Innovations. "We are proud to be a part of the development of a new type of laser, which will have a wide range of applications across multiple defense capabilities."

Additional details of the contract and the research to be conducted were not disclosed.

LGS Innovations is an independent subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent and is solely focused on work for the U.S. government.
