Saab receives another Erieye upgrade deal

LINKOPING, Sweden, April 8 (UPI) -- Saab of Sweden says it has received an additional order from the Brazilian Air Force for upgrading its airborne early warning radar.

The contract for enhancing the Erieye Airborne Early Warning and Control Mission System used on the service's Embraer 145 plane is worth $50.2 million.

"The Brazilian Air Force's Erieye system on the Embraer 145 has been in operational service for approximately 10 years and with the new features now commissioned our Brazilian customer will get an even better system to control airspace and prevent criminal activities", said Micael Johansson, head of Saab's Electronic Defense Systems business area.

Saab said it received an order from Embraer, rather than the Air Force, in late February for upgrades to the Erieye system, which Brazil uses for airspace and border surveillance.

Brazil has used Saab's Erieye AEW&C Mission System since 2002.

Saab did not disclose additional details of the new contract, issued by the Brazilian Air Force's Comissao Coordenadora do Programa Aeronave de Combate.
