AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has ordered more TIM 1500 thermal imagers from BAE Systems to support the service's Stryker and Common Remotely Operated Weapons Station programs.
The TIM 1500 is an uncooled, extended-range thermal system in the 7.5-14 mm spectrum band used for day and night surveillance, target acquisition and situational awareness for troops in a vehicle. It is designed for use with vehicle-mounted weapons.
"For the warfighter, the TIM 1500 system provides a critical tool for mission success in less-than-ideal conditions, either day or night," said George Bartlett, program manager. "For the government, we are providing a proven and affordable solution for our military in a time of shrinking budgets."
BAE says it has supplied the Army with more than 13,000 of the systems.
The current order is worth $13 million but BAE didn't disclose the number of units to be supplied or a delivery schedule.
