TUCSON, June 1 (UPI) -- Armor-maker Bourque Industries and a Utah vehicle manufacturer plan to work together to develop prototype vehicles for U.S. Army use.
Bourque and Stealth Reconnaissance Assault and Transport Systems Inc. have signed a letter of intent on their strategic partnership.
"This joint development project is a major step forward for Bourque Industries, as we're able to combine our revolutionary armor technology with an equally revolutionary vehicle technology from SRATS," said John M. Bourque, founder of Bourque Industries and inventor of Kryron, a new alloy armor.
"If we do our job, and I'm sure we will, these vehicles are the future for mounted, armored tactical operations for U.S. warfighters."
Bourque said SRATS vehicles are remarkable for their extreme off-road capability, redefining the standard of passable terrain for land-based tactical vehicles.
The signed letter of intent, as well as detailed information about the SRATS vehicles, is available on the temporary corporate Web site at www.bourqueindustries.com. The documentation will highlight for shareholders and the general public the capability and flexibility of Bourque/SRATS technology.
Bourque's Kryron armor is a proprietary, light-weight aluminum alloy that outperforms industry standards. It stops high-caliber rounds at closer ranges than the competition and is the only material to reliably stop multiple strikes, Bourque said. It also eliminates spall, shatter and ricochet.
For vehicle armor applications, Kryron provides greatly enhanced protection with significant weight savings over traditional steel-alloy armor, the company said.
