ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 23 (UPI) -- Vuzix Corp. of New York has announced new monocular video eyewear that allows both real-world viewing and viewing of computer-generated information.
The Tac-Eye ST is a ruggedized monocular see-through, head-mounted display for defense, security, surveillance and industrial applications. Designed to clip-on to safety glasses or helmets, the monocular display will improve the user's situational awareness over current monocular models.
Part of Vuzix's Tac-Eye product line the unit, the super video graphics array monocular provides a 32-degree field of view and can be connected to any device with VGA or composite video out capability.
"The Tac-Eye ST fills a need that our defense and security customers have been asking for," said Vuzix Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Travers. "Situational awareness is critical to a user's safety in the field, and their ability to act and react quickly.
"We are pleased to be able to deliver the see-through binocular sooner than we anticipated."
The Tac-Eye system was demonstrated last week at the 2011 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Florida.
